How can you tell if pearls are real?
I have a necklace/bracelet/earring set I got as a gift and I was just wondering how you could find out if they were real without taking them to a jeweler.
1st off from the iridescence. Real pearls are heavier and have a special shine to them. When people say bite it their just saying that because fake pearls usually have a plastic covering film over them and will chip or something. That’s also a good way to chip a tooth because if they’re real they’re very hard and nothing will probably happen.
What I would do is get a very sharp knife or anything sharp and try and cut one of the pearls (gently) that’s near the clasp. That way scratched no one will see it. If stuff peels off then it’s fake.
